Finding the right employment support can be difficult when job seekers do not know where to begin or which organization to contact.
Through our partnership with Cambridge Public Library, EmployNext powered by Serco is making that first step easier. As the library’s single point of contact for employment services, EmployNext coordinates support from multiple local employment service providers across our network. Through the EmployNext Community Desk at Queen’s Square, community members can access free job search assistance, employment workshops and personalized career support in a familiar space where they can use computers, print resumes and connect with the help they need.
“By working with EmployNext directly, Cambridge Public Library has been able to offer a variety of programs with multiple employment-related agencies through one contact,” said Shannon from Cambridge Public Library. “It makes for wonderfully smooth delivery.”
EmployNext’s network of local employment service providers visit Cambridge Public Library twice a month to offer drop-in support and registered employment workshops. Job seekers can meet directly with employment professionals to discuss their career goals and identify practical next steps.
Available support includes:
The Community Desk is free and serves teens and adults. Registration is suggested for workshops, but walk-ins are welcome. Accessibility accommodations can also be requested through the library. The public program listing confirms the twice-monthly support model, free access and accommodation options.
The partnership brings together four service providers in the EmployNext network:
Workshop topics have included job search strategies, interview preparation, strategic resumes, career planning, LinkedIn, workplace wellness, self-employment, seasonal jobs, Better Jobs Ontario and speed networking.
A public library is a place where many people already feel comfortable asking questions and accessing resources.
“This is a space where folks feel comfortable and feel that they belong,” Shannon explained. “It makes it a very easy start for them when they’re looking for employment.”
The Community Desk creates that starting point, but support does not end at the library. When someone needs more extensive or specialized assistance, an EmployNext Service Provider can continue working with the job seeker one-on-one.
This helps people move from an initial conversation to personalized career coaching, skills training and employment opportunities without navigating several organizations alone.
Cambridge Public Library and EmployNext are exploring opportunities to expand the partnership through larger career events and programs focused on workplace language and the impact of artificial intelligence on employment.
The Community Desk is an example of how EmployNext helps simplify access to employment services. By coordinating multiple local service providers through a single point of contact, EmployNext makes it easier for community organizations, like Cambridge Public Library, to connect residents with the support that best meet their needs.
Whether someone is looking for help with a resume, exploring training opportunities, or taking their first step toward a new career, the Community Desk provides a welcoming starting point and a direct connection to ongoing employment services across the EmployNext network.
