Creating meaningful employment opportunities for Albertans with disabilities and other barriers to employment takes more than a single organization. It requires a coordinated network of employers, community partners, employment service providers, and support organizations working collaboratively to help individuals access the resources they need to succeed.
That collaboration was on full display during EmployNext’s recent Open House, held across all five Calgary locations. The event brought together employers, employment service providers, wraparound support organizations, and community referral partners to connect, exchange ideas, strengthen relationships, and explore opportunities to better support individuals undergoing disabilities and facing complex barriers to employment across Calgary and Southern Alberta.

Building stronger pathways to employment
Since launching in July 2026, EmployNext in Alberta has focused on helping individuals overcome barriers to employment by connecting them with job search support, career services, training opportunities, and community resources. Through referrals, coordinated service delivery, and strong community partnerships, individuals can access the tools, guidance, and supports needed to build skills, gain confidence, and move forward in their employment journey.
Collaboration that drives employment success
“Employment success is built through strong partnerships. The Open House was a valuable opportunity to recognize the collective effort taking place across our communities while forming new connections that serve as the foundation for building a stronger and inclusive workforce” said Jodi O’Gorman, National Director, Employment Services, Serco Canada Inc.
For many individuals, success in the workplace is closely linked to accessing housing supports, transportation, mental health resources, childcare, training and other community services.
By bringing organizations together under one roof, the Open House created opportunities for meaningful discussions about how these interconnected needs can be addressed more effectively through stronger collaboration and coordinated support.

Supporting employers and workforce development
The Open House also provided employers with an opportunity to learn more about the employment services, workforce development initiatives, and community supports available throughout the region.
As labour market needs continue to evolve, partnerships between employers, service providers, and community organizations remain critical to creating inclusive hiring practices and strengthening Alberta’s workforce. Strong employer engagement helps create pathways to meaningful employment while ensuring businesses can access a broader and more diverse talent pool.
Turning connections into opportunities
“There were meaningful conversations about ways we can best support those that we serve and I also got to connect with other support agencies. This was a great introduction to EmployNext in Alberta and I am looking forward to their growth” said Bibhu Ojha, Program Manager (Communities), The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth.
While the Open House may have lasted only a day, the relationships and conversations it sparked will continue long after the event concludes.
By creating opportunities for employers, community organizations, and service providers to connect, EmployNext is helping strengthen the ecosystem of support available to Albertans facing barriers to employment. We are grateful to everyone who participated and look forward to working together to create more opportunities for individuals to build skills, find meaningful employment, and achieve long-term success in their careers.
