Finding applicants was not the problem for Septodont Canada. Finding qualified local candidates who understood the work and could succeed in a controlled manufacturing environment was more difficult.
Large job boards generated high application volumes, but they did not always deliver the right fit. Septodont needed a more focused recruitment strategy for production roles at its Cambridge, Ontario operations.
EmployNext powered by Serco responded by connecting the employer with local employment service providers, screening potential candidates and creating direct pathways to available jobs.
The Challenge: Reaching the right candidates
Septodont is a global dental and pharmaceutical manufacturer with production operations in Cambridge. The organization has more than 90 years of global experience, while its Cambridge operations have more than 45 years of manufacturing heritage.
As its hiring needs grew, Septodont identified limitations in broad online recruitment. Some applicants lived too far from the worksite, while others did not meet the requirements of the available production roles.
The company wanted to:
- Reach candidates in the Cambridge area
- Improve alignment before interviews
- Connect with people outside major job platforms
- Build a more reliable local talent pipeline
- Strengthen its presence in the community
What Is community-based recruitment?
Community-based recruitment connects employers with candidates through local employment services, community organizations, and workforce partners.
Unlike a general job posting, this approach considers local barriers, employer requirements and candidate readiness. It can help employers reach people who may not be active on mainstream job platforms.
For job seekers, it creates a supported pathway to employment. Candidates can receive job search assistance, résumé help, interview preparation and career coaching before meeting an employer.
EmployNext’s recruitment approach
EmployNext worked with its network of local service providers to understand Septodont’s hiring needs and identify potential candidates for production positions.
The approach focused on:
- Local candidate outreach
- Initial screening and job matching
- Clear information about role requirements
- Candidate preparation before interviews
- Direct employer and job-seeker connections
EmployNext also supported targeted hiring events in Cambridge on May 12 and May 14, 2026. Septodont recruited for Component Prep Operator and Filling Operator positions, and candidates were asked to arrive prepared for on-the-spot interviews.
This created a more direct route between local job seekers and an employer with active vacancies.
Helping employers make better connections
The partnership gave Septodont an alternative to relying on large job boards. EmployNext and its service provider network could identify candidates within the community, explain the opportunities, and prepare people for the recruitment process.
This work also helped Septodont reach candidates who might otherwise have missed their job postings.
Specific hiring totals, retention results, and reductions in time-to-hire were not available for this case study. These figures should be added when confirmed to strengthen the evidence of impact.
